Château de Chareil-Cintrat
At the foot of a vine-covered hill, the château was originally one of the fiefdoms of the Bourbon family. In the mid-sixteenth century, Claude Morin, ordinary controller of the wars, became its owner. He had a new building constructed against the medieval castle walls, the towers of which still remain.
His duties probably took him to Italy, where the ancient remains and buildings of the Italian Renaissance may have inspired some of his decorations.
During the Wars of Religion, the Protestants laid siege to the castle, but without damaging the building.
In 1589, during the Wars of Religion, the castle was besieged.
From 1752, the Langlois de Ramentière family owned the castle; Louis Jean Pierre Langlois de Ramentière was the first mayor of Chareil. In 1815, it became the property of the Thonnier family, who kept it until 1923.
During the First World War, the Schneider steelworks acquired the monument, but never occupied it.
