Pagode de Chanteloup
The Pagode de Chanteloup, an 18th-century architectural extravaganza, is set in 14 hectares of parkland in the heart of the Châteaux de la Loire. The main reminder of the Duc de Choiseul's château, which was destroyed in 1823, the 40-metre-high Pagoda offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Château d'Amboise, the forest and the Loire Valley.
During your visit, discover the history of Chanteloup with a virtual reconstruction of the "vanished palace", enjoy "old-fashioned games" in wood or a country picnic, discover the small Chinese garden inviting meditation, and the calm of a boat trip on the large lake.

Stories and visits
- Self-guided or guided tours by appointment
In 1761, the Duc de Choiseul, Louis XV's chief minister at the time, bought the Chanteloup estate, shortly after being appointed Governor of Touraine. From 1765, he had the château enlarged and brought up to date, and the gardens enlarged. After falling into disgrace, he was exiled from Paris in December 1770 and settled at Chanteloup, where he completed the renovations. He held a brilliant assembly there, which was considered a rival to Versailles.
The "Folie du Duc de Choiseul" or "Monument dedicated to Friendship" was built by the Duke in 1775, after his exile from the court of King Louis XV, as a tribute to all his friends who had shown him their loyalty.
